was established in 99% of patients on the first attempt, and in 1% of patients insertion failed at the second attempt. In agreement with the authors, the effective airway time was similar for the two devices and the oropharyngeal leak pressure was higher in the Soft Seal laryngeal mask group. The endoscopic score of the larynx was significantly better with the Soft Seal laryngeal mask group than with the Unique LMA group. The changes in cuff pressures and airway morbidity were similar in both groups. In an observational study, we inserted the Soft Seal laryngeal mask with the cuff inflated at atmospheric pressure [3] in 100 patients and achieved 97% success in the first attempt and 3% in the second attempt. Regarding insertions, 85% were graded as very easy and 12% as easy and were achieved within 20 s. The mean intra-cuff pressure in vivo was 40 mmHg (53 cm H2O). The leak pressure was at a mean pressure of 24.8 cm H2O, in agreement with the authors. Only six patients complained of mild-to-moderate sore throat in the first 2 h after operation. We agree with the authors’ conclusion that the LMA Unique and the Soft Seal laryngeal mask are of equal clinical suitability. We believe that inserting the Soft Seal laryngeal mask with the cuff inflated at atmospheric pressure can achieve excellent conditions for insertion and removal.

In vitro and in vivo assessment of inhibitory effect of stevioside on pro-inflammatory cytokines
Objective: Stevioside is a natural non-caloric sweetener which has been reported to have anti-inflammatory activity. The aim of the present study was to examine in vitro and in vivo effects of stevioside on rats plasma levels of tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), TNF-α and IL-1β release from lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated rat peripheral blood mononuclear cells (P...
متن کاملSystemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome Due to Surgery and its Effective Therapeutic Approaches
Introduction: Various lesions trigger an inflammatory response in the host body. These injuries include surgical stress Surgery exerts stress on the body. Systemic inflammatory syndrome is a reflection of the degree of surgical stress and as a system of assessing the severity of postoperative stress. Regular complexes of inflammatory polypeptide molecules contribute to the development of this i...
متن کاملChanges in some pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines produced by bovine peripheral blood mononuclear cells following foot and mouth disease vaccination
Interleukin (IL)-17 is exclusively produced by CD4 helper T-cells upon activation. It most often acts as a pro-inflammatory cytokine, which stimulates the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). In this study, we studied the in-vitro IL-17 response to specific antigens and a variety of mitogens and compared the IL-1...
متن کاملP34: Berberin Exerts Neuroprotective Effects by Modulating Pro and Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines in Rat Model of MCAO
Many complicated mechanisms are involved in brain ischemia and the role of inflammatory factors in the progression of post-ischemic injury is inevitable. In present study, anti-inflammatory effect of berberine has been investigated in reperfusion injury after acute ischemic stroke. Male Wistar rats weighing 250-270 gr were randomly divided into four cohorts: healthy rats (control, n=20), sham-o...
متن کاملCirculating Levels of Pro-inflammatory Cytokines in Patients with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis
Background: Pro-inflammatory cytokines are associated with systemic inflammatory responses. Objective: To investigate the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1b, IL-6, and TNF-a) in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) compared to healthy individuals. Methods: This case-control study was c...
